A Minocqua teen finished in second place out of 10 finalists of the National Geographic Bee, which was held Thursday in Washington, D.C.
Vansh Jain, who earned a $15,000 scholarship, made the cut after a preliminary round with 54 finalists Tuesday. About 4 million students entered the competition this year.
The finals were at the National Geographic Society and moderated by "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek.
First prize was a $25,000 college scholarship, lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
Jain was the Wisconsin winner in 2009 and 2010 as well.
