State Department of Workforce Development finds slower growth

MADISON, Wis. -

The latest job numbers released by Gov. Scott Walker's administration show slowed growth over the 12-month period that ended in September.

Walker's Department of Workforce Development released the latest numbers Friday, which show the addition of 20,481 jobs during that time. That's slower growth than the previous 12-month period, running through last June, when 35,381 private-sector jobs were created.

The data are based on a census of 96 percent of Wisconsin businesses. Walker's administration has been releasing the numbers in advance of them being published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Because the figures are released early, Wisconsin's performance can't be compared to other states. In the previous quarter, Wisconsin ranked 42nd in job creation.
