The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says it has successfully drawn down a rain-swollen lake in Kenosha County.
The DNR said Monday its staff has removed a board from an inlet to Vern Wolf Lake Dam to begin lowering water levels.
A levee holding back Vern Wolf Lake in the Richard Bong Recreation Area is in danger of failing because of heavy rains. The 93-acre lake has depths of up to 12 feet.
As a precaution, authorities in Kenosha County have closed a section of State Highway 75.
The DNR says the stretch of highway remains closed. Several trails within Richard Bong Recreation Area also are closed around the lake.
