DARLINGTON, Wis. -

Two Argyle brothers accused of trying to wipe out their family in a fire have pleaded not guilty to multiple homicide charges.

Judge Thomas Vale also decided Wednesday to hold separate trials for Armin Wand III and Jeremy Wand, who face several homicide and arson charges in Lafayette County.

Jeremy Wand pleaded not guilty, and Armin Wand stood mute and the court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Armin Wand’s trial is scheduled for Feb. 25 through March 1.

Prosecutors allege the brothers set Armin Wand's Argyle home on fire Sept. 7 in an effort to kill Armin Wand's family to collect on insurance money that didn't exist.

Prosecutors say Jeremy Wand conspired with his brother on setting the fatal fire for the promise of $300.

Armin Wand III's three sons were killed in the fire. His pregnant wife managed to rescue their 2-year-old daughter but suffered serious injuries that killed her unborn child.

Attorneys for the Wands' defense are asking for a change of venue, arguing a fair trial isn't possible because of media coverage. The judge is giving prosecutors a week to respond to the motion.

The judge, who was brought in from Green County, said he could also bring in a jury from outside Lafayette County.
