Venue change request in half-brother's homicide
Vogelsberg expected in court Thursday
Lawyers for a former Mazomanie man accused of killing his autistic half-brother want a judge to move his trial out of Dane County.
The State Journal reported defense attorneys say broadcast, print and online coverage of the case has made it impossible for Jeffrey Vogelsberg to get a fair trial in Madison.
Prosecutors have accused Vogelsberg, 28, of regularly torturing and finally killing Matthew Graville, 27, in Mazomanie last summer.
Authorities arrested Vogelsberg in Washington State where he had moved to be with his wife, who's stationed at a military base. Authorities returned Vogelsberg to Wisconsin in December. A Dane County judge recently bound him over for trial on one count of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of hiding a corpse.
He's expected in court Thursday for arraignment.
