SOMERS, Wis. (AP) — A proposal that would mean higher pay scales for top University of Wisconsin System employees faces one final hurdle.
A committee of UW System regents approved the plan Thursday at UW-Parkside. Now the full board will take it up Friday morning.
The plan expands the range of salaries that can be offered to certain new hires. For example, the outgoing UW System president makes $418,000. Under the new plan his replacement could make anywhere from $399,000 to $598,500.
The regents committee acknowledged that the public could be upset by the move. But members say it's important they be able to offer competitive salaries when recruiting top talent.
The full board will also consider a proposal to modify the levels of reserve cash the campuses have to keep on hand.
