Wisconsin transportation officials said traffic deaths were up slightly in January, and they're calling for drivers to pay more attention.
Forty people died in traffic crashes during the month, three more than the five-year average.
Traffic deaths last year were up 6 percent from the year before.
State transportation officials said drivers should avoid eating, making phone calls, or looking around for items while they're moving -- especially on wintry roads.
