An 18-year-old woman in Tampa, Fla., who was charged with driving under the influence three times in 18 days, was spared a prison sentence and instead ordered by a judge into a residential drug treatment program.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that Kimberly McCarthy, who told police that she did not know "smoking marijuana and driving would be a DUI," would remain jailed until a bed could be found for her at a program.

The judge ruled that after her treatment McCarthy would serve three years of supervision, with an ankle monitor attached to her for two of those years. Following supervision, she will then begin a year of probation. The judge also suspended her license for six months.

According to the newspaper, the judge chastised McCarthy's grandparents for allowing her to drive their vehicle and ordered it disabled for 10 days.
