Suspects In Four Shootings Sunday Still At Large
New Year Opens On Busy Note For Madison Police
Madison police said it was a chaotic start to the New Year as 2012 began with four separate gunshot incidents throughout the city.
A busy night for Madison police started in the 1500 block of Troy Drive on the city?s north side. Four to six shots rang out as one suspect fleed and another bailed out of the getaway car.
A third, 24-year-old Alvin Malone, is now in jail after leading police on a chase. Police spokesman Howard Payne said officers are looking for the other two who made the start to 2012 a dangerous one.
"This chase went through a number of neighborhoods and residential streets, so that's what escalated the degree of danger," said Payne.
Then, a report came in around midnight on Saturday of a shot fired in the 2900 block of Maple Grove Drive on the city's southwest side.
A car owner found the result of the shot later in the morning as someone shot out a vehicle.
Then police turned their attention to the east side as multiple shots were fired in a room at the Grandstay Residential Suites in the 5300 block of High Crossing Blvd.
Again, the suspect fled the scene and is still at large.
"It's just been one thing after another," said Payne.
Then, shortly after the East Side incident, shot were fired downtown inside Frida Mexican Grill at 117 State Street just after 2 a.m. Sunday. Two men suffered non-life threatening injuries, but not because of the gunfire.
"There was pandemonium after the shots were heard, and in the midst of that occurring, when you add that to the disturbance that had probably occurred inside, that's how we ended up with two individuals with non life threatening injuries," said Payne.
That?s four separate shootings with no one actually shot. Most of the suspects are still not in custody.
Police are still trying to sort it all out, but they said none of the incidents seem random.
"It?s rather unfortunate that we would have to start our New Year off with such violent incidents occurring in our city," said Payne.
