Sun Prairie Students Take Part In Anti-Bullying Retreat
Students Attend 'Kindness' Event
Kindness was the name of the game at Sun Prairie elementary schools this week as part of an effort to curb bullying.
Minneapolis-based Youth Frontiers put on the "Kindness Retreat" Friday for Sun Prairie fourth-graders at East Side Elementary.
The retreat included fun activities and group discussions, including direct dialogue between the 80 percent of kids who are bystanders to bullying as well as the other 20 percent -- victims, and the bullies themselves.
"Our goal for them is to experience an entire day where they are treated with nothing but kindness and where they're treating others with nothing but kindness, because we want to show them if they can make that happen today then they can make that happen everyday," said Rita Boersma with Youth Frontiers. "So, we talk about bullying, we talk about standing up for each other."
