Stoughton man dies in fiery crash

Driver crossed center line, hit large tree

TOWN OF OAKLAND, Wis. -

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said a 36-year-old Stoughton man is dead following a one-car crash just east of Cambridge early Friday morning,

The incident happened just after 4 a.m. on County Highway C near Retzlaff Road in the township of Oakland.

According to the Sheriff's Department, deputies found a car fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Upon further investigation, deputies determined a car driven by Jason Pruitt, of Stougton, was going westbound on C when it crossed the centerline, slid through the ditch and struck a large tree. The crash caused the car to catch fire.

Pruitt was pronounced dead at the scene.
