Store clerk tip leads to OWI arrest
Police: Woman refuses field sobriety test
A tip from a gas station clerk led Janesville police to arrest a woman on suspicion of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated Sunday.
The clerk called police after 11 p.m. after noticing a customer stumbling in the store, reporting that she lost her car in the parking lot and needing assistance with her debit card to make a purchase. The clerk told police the woman was trying to leave in her vehicle.
Police said officers spotted the vehicle leaving the gas station and stopped her in the 1600 block of East Racine Street after seeing the vehicle swerve across the center line.
Patricia E. Hexom, 49, of Janesville, has slurred speech, an odor of intoxicants on her breath and admitted to an officer that she had been drinking, according to police. Officers said Hexon refused field sobriety tests and was taken to the Rock County Jail.
