JOHNSON CREEK, Wis. -

A Wisconsin State Patrol squad car was damaged and a trooper escaped injury in a crash on Interstate 94 Monday morning.

State Patrol Sgt. Greg Jenswold told News 3 the crash near the 264 mile marker in Jefferson County occurred at about 8:56 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-94.

Jenswold said the trooper was parked by the side of the highway after completing a traffic stop. As vehicles were moving to the left lane, a car was forced to slow down to make room for a truck pulling a trailer as it was merging. The car swerved to the left and over-corrected, turning to face the right side of the road and hitting the squad car, according to Jenswold.

Both the car and the squad car sustained serious damage, but there were no injuries. Jenswold said the driver's door on the squad car was pushed in 1 foot.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation.
