Sheriff: Westport burglaries continue after 4 months
Thieves targeting easy-access areas like cars, garages
Authorities said a pattern of burglaries that began in September continues to be a problem in the Town of Westport.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to two additional reports of break-ins Thursday morning believed to be related to vehicle and garage break-ins from four months ago.
The September break-ins took place along Westport Road and Blue Bill Park Drive, sheriff spokeswoman Elise Schaffer said.
Thefts reported Thursday were also in the Westport Road and Lighthouse Bay neighborhoods, according to a report.
Schaffer said the thieves target cars and garages with easy access and move from property to property seeking unlocked doors.
To help prevent thefts, Schaffer said residents are encouraged to keep valuables out of sight and doors locked. She said in some cases, thieves have forced their way into vehicles and garages to get visible valuables and cash.
The sheriff’s department also asked Westport-area residents to be vigilant of activity in the neighborhood and report anything suspicious immediately.
