The Green County Sheriff's Department said a man who was texting while driving collided with a truck and trailer, causing the truck and trailer to strike and injure a pedestrian Friday.
The two-vehicle crash occurred about 4:37 p.m. Friday in the W5800 block of State Highway 11 in the Town of Monroe.
Sheriff's officials said the investigation revealed that Joshua B. Byer, 30, of Madison, was driving eastbound on State Highway 11 when he collided with a truck and trailer that was parked along the highway.
The collision caused the truck and trailer to strike a pedestrian identified as Allen C. Borntreger, 23, of Richland Center, officials said.
Sheriff's officials said Borntreger suffered injuries and was transported by Green County EMS to a hospital. The driver of the truck and trailer was not injured.
Sheriff's officials said Byer was wearing a seat belt and the airbag deployed, and he was not injured in the crash.
Passengers in Byer's vehicle, a 9-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl, suffered injuries and were transported by Green County EMS, according to a Green County Sheriff's Department news release.
Byer's vehicle sustained very severe damage and was towed from the scene.
The truck sustained moderate damage and the trailer sustained severe damage, and both were removed from the scene.
Sheriff's officials said Byer was cited for inattentive driving as he was texting at the time of the crash. He was released pending court.
