MILTON, Wis. -

A school bus driver was pulled from his route for the Milton School District after failing to stop a beating on his bus last week.

Leaders from the bus company met with the school district superintendent and concerned parents on Friday after video of the fight was captured on camera and posted online.

Bus company officials said the driver's lack of action is causing serious safety concerns for parents and leaders in the district, WISC-TV reported.

"There was some student misbehavior on a bus that wasn't being addressed by our driver," said Colleen McCay, Riteway regional manager.

The driver should have pulled over and stopped the bus, officials said.

"We accept responsibility for our driver not appropriately handling the situation," said Tom Strickler, Riteway bus service operations manager.

Strickler said he's talked to the driver who failed to act and has removed him from all driving assignments for an unspecified amount of time.

McCay said the driver was wrong so there won't be any changes made to company policy at this point.

"We are working with our staff to make sure this type of behavior and a lack of response to it doesn't continue to occur," McCay said.

The Milton School Superintendent Mike Garrow said Riteway transports about 2,100 Milton students every day.

"We're really looking at the safety of all of our kids on all of our buses," Garrow said.

Friday's meeting will be the first of many as both sides work toward improving student safety on buses.

"I hope to see better or improved communication occur both with the transportation company and from the transportation company with our families because they are apart of our district," said Garrow.

Strickler said the driver involved in this incident has been with the company less than a year. They allowed him to shadow a veteran driver earlier this week to see how to handle unruly students in the future. He is also going to be retaking a training program.
