SUV goes airborne, rolls; Driver killed
Woman pronounced dead at the scene
A 45-year-old Waterloo woman was killed when her SUV hit an embankment, went airborne, and rolled over, according to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency crews from Marshall and University of Wisconsin Med Flight were called to State Highway 19, just east of Cherry Lane in Medina Township at 6:59 a.m. Thursday for a report of a vehicle on its roof. Crews said when they arrived they found a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer about 75 feet off the road.
Investigators said the SUV was traveling east on Highway 19 when it veered off the side of the road, the driver over-corrected and the SUV hit an embankment, sending it airborne. It landed on its roof in a field.
Deputies believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but a final determination has not been made by the medical examiner.
Highway 19 was closed for about two and a half hours.
The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of families.
