Prosecutors Clear Groups Of Election Bribery

Milwaukee County prosecutors have cleared both a conservative anti-abortion group and a liberal labor organization of bribing voters during last summer's state Senate recall elections.

The district attorney's office filed a letter Monday in circuit court announcing the end of its investigations.

Wisconsin Right to Life was accused of offering gift cards to volunteers who signed up absentee voters in Republican state Sen. Alberta Darling's district. The investigation found no one requested or received the gift cards.

Wisconsin Jobs Now, a coalition of labor and community groups, was accused of holding parties in Milwaukee and offering voters free food and rides to the city hall where they could cast absentee ballots.

But the investigation determined that no one was required to vote in order to get the free food.
