Police: Woman’s attempt at fleeing triggers airbags
Driver arrested on suspicion of 2nd offense OWI
A Madison woman was arrested on suspicion of second offense operating while intoxicated after she tried to flee a police officer and triggered her car’s side airbags in the process, according to Madison police.
Police said they tried to pull over a car driven by Kelly M. Rodger, 26, for speeding in the 700 block of Regent Street at about 1 a.m. Sunday.
Rodger pulled her car into a parking lot, drove over a curbed embankment into another parking lot and hopped a curb onto South Mills Street, according to police. An officer said the car then went through a red flashing traffic light at Dayton Street before stopping at Johnson Street.
Officers said it was likely difficult for the woman to see out of the car because of the side airbags.
A preliminary breath test put Rodger’s blood alcohol content at .21 percent, officers said.
Rodger was also arrested on suspicion of speeding, failure to stop for a flashing red light and failure to stop for an officer.
