MADISON, Wis. -

A confused 27-year-old Madison man on the city's far east side contacted the Madison Police Department's self-report unit Sunday after a message popped up on his computer indicating child pornography had been found on his laptop.

The message appeared to be from the Department of Justice and indicated he had 48 hours to get rid of the porn, and that he needed to send $300 via a MoneyPak card, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

The self-report unit officer told the caller that the DOJ did not operate in this fashion and that this was a scam.

Madison police pointed out that PCWorld has an article with information on this crime trend at http://bit.ly/YEEpih.
