MADISON, Wis. -

A Madison woman was left frightened after two men posing as police detectives came to her home on the city's far west side last week.

One of the men pushed his way inside the home on Talc Trail at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 1, while the other stayed outside, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

The stranger identified himself as a Madison Police Department detective and presented what looked like a "fake badge," according to the incident report.

The man ordered the woman to stay away from a man with whom she had a long-term relationship until a recent breakup, police said.

The woman said the men who came to her home left in a burgundy Ford Explorer.

She called the Dane County Communications Center, and a dispatcher confirmed that no detectives had been sent to her home.

Police said one man was described as white, 40-50 years old, standing 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 170-180 pounds with sandy hair. He was wearing a tan plaid sport coat and a black shirt, police said.

Police said the second man was described as white, standing 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 170-190 pounds.
