Police: Irate would-be seller attacks pawn shop employee

Madison police said a pawn shop employee was punched, knocked to the ground and kicked after he refused to buy a flat-screen TV from a 19-year-old Fitchburg man who did not have the proper paperwork.

Police said the would-be seller became irate and boisterous at the failed business transaction at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pawn America at 2301 East Springs Drive.

The employee, a 58-year-old man, told him to leave the store because of the disturbance being caused by the raucous outbursts, and that was when the employee was attacked, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

Police said the initial blow sent the employee's glasses flying across Pawn America's lobby.

Police were called, and an officer happened to be nearby. A 911 communicator told the officer that a store employee was tailing the attacker, and that both were jogging across another store's parking lot.

Police said the officer spotted the suspect, and the 19-year-old took off in a sprint but lost the foot chase.

The suspect, identified as Alfonzo L. Money, was arrested at gunpoint on tentative charges of battery, disorderly conduct, resisting/obstructing an officer and two counts of bail jumping, according to the incident report.

Police said colleagues of the suspect departed with the TV before the arrival of officers.
