A 68-year-old man died after a small plane crashed Monday afternoon in Winnebago County.

The sheriff's office said the plane crashed in a field in the Winneconne area.

WLUK-TV reports officials don't believe the single-engine plane left the ground.

The pilot’s name has not been released. No one else was aboard.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified.
