OFFICIALS ARE INVESTIGATING AFTER A FIRE DESTROYED
A POPULAR RESTAURANT IN ROCK COUNTY.

OWNERS OF THE NIGHT OWL FOOD AND SPIRITS SAY THE MORE
THAN 100-YEAR-OLD BUILDING IS A TOTAL LOSS.
ROCK COUNTY REPORTER JENNA MIDDAUGH HAS MORE ON THE
OFFICIALS WITH THE EVANSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT ALONG
WITH THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL ARE LOOKING INTO WHAT
CAUSED THE FIRE THAT STARTED RIGHT HERE ON THE BACK
PORCH OF THE NIGHT OWL.
INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY'RE NOT RULING ANYTHING OUT.
we're looking at all avenues right now to see what
we're coming up with.

AFTER A LONG NIGHT BATTLING THE FIRE
6 hours I think we were here.

INVESTIGATORS SPENT THE DAY LOOKING INTO WHAT MIGHT
HAVE CAUSED THE POPULAR RESTAURANT TO GO UP IN FLAMES.
it's really very sad.

OFFICIALS SAY PEOPLE AT THE RESTAURANT TRIED TO PUT
THE FIRE OUT BEFORE CREWS GOT TO THE SCENE
He grabbed a fire extinguisher and tried to knock
the fire down, but the fire enlarged so quick that
the fire extinguisher wasn't doing any good.

AND THE FIRE QUICKLY SPREAD TO THE ROOF
Once it got up into the roof line and ease, it was
kind of a bear to get out.
Thank god we had a
couple different aerials from departments
that helped us out a lot.

THE FIRE DAMAGED MORE THAN JUST THE BUILDING, IT BURNED
A HOLE IN THE CITY'S HISTORY.

like that? In a neighborhood that's very historic.

NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE RESTAURANT -- AND BUILDING ITSELF
-- WILL BE MISSED BY MANY.

to miss this business because they had great food
here and stuff.
So, it's jus ta shame to see it go.

It was one of the few restaurants in town.
And a lot of people went here.

It was really a community place.
THE OWNERS SAY THE BUILDING IS A TOTAL LOSS, AND IT'S
TOO EARLY TO TELL IF THEY'LL BE ABLE TO REOPEN HERE
OR IN ANOTHER LOCATION.

THE FIRE CHIEF SAYS THE BUILDING NEXT DOOR HAD A LITTLE
WATER DAMAGE AND DAMAGE TO THE SHINGLES FROM FIRE
HOSES SPRAYING WATER, BUT NO OTHER BUILDINGS WERE

AND THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT NO ONE WAS HURT IN THE FIRE.
BUT POLICE THERE ARE ASKING THE PUBLIC TO STAY AWAY
FROM THE AREA DUE TO POSSIBLE FALLING DEBRIS.
