Officials: La Crosse woman's death is heat-related

Victim's body temperature more than 100 degrees when found

LA CROSSE, Wis. -

The La Crosse County deputy medical examiner said a woman died from heat-related causes, and a second death is being investigated to see if heat is a factor.

Deputy Medical Examiner Tim Candahl said a 68-year-old La Crosse woman was found dead Thursday evening in her home, where the heat was 109 degrees.

Candahl told the La Crosse Tribune that the woman's body temperature was more than 100 degrees when she was found.

The city is among many in the area to see record-breaking heat all week.

In Lone Rock Thursday, James Kast, 74, was found dead in his home.

The Richland County coroner said there was no air conditioning in his home.

Health officials urge the public to try to avoid the heat and to check on family members and neighbors without air conditioning.
