A nearly 100-year-old barn was destroyed in a fire in Walworth County  Monday afternoon, police said.

The Whitewater Fire Department said firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the town of Cold Spring at 3:05 p.m. Crews said heavy fire was seen coming from the building.

The owner told firefighters that all the animals were out of the building, so crews set up defensive operations to fight the fire.

The 98-year-old barn was a total loss, according to the release.

The estimated loss is about $400,000 including structure and contents.

Crews were at the scene for about 5 hours, according to the report.
