The Mount Horeb community came together before the football game Friday night to honor a fallen airman and former Viking.
Airman First Class Tyler Oimoen died in a hiking incident in California Monday. He graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 2013 and was a member of the band and football team.
"He was a great example of what our program stands for," football coach Ryan Kleppe said."Absolutely giving everything you've got for the people around you and for your teammates and sacrificing yourself to be able to make a positive impact."
The stadium observed a moment of silence before the game, and the Mount Horeb American Legion, along with members of the spirit squads, released 21 balloons in honor of Oimoen's age.
"It's always a privilege to honor a fellow soldier," Legion member Tom Pedretti said. "This is his hometown, and we're honored to be able to show some kind of respect and appreciation for his service."
