A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a vehicle Wednesday in Winnebago County.
Illinois State Police said the crash occurred at about 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of Illinois Route 70 and North Meridian Road.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation found that a Kia Rio was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Illinois Route 70 and North Meridian Road when a motorcycle traveling south on Illinois Route 70 apparently rear-ended the Kia.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 39-year-old man from Rockford, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an Illinois State Police news release.
Police said the driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Kia, a 48-year-old man from Rockford, was transported to a hospital for injuries suffered in the crash.
Alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash, according to the news release.
No citations have been issued.
Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
