A man arrested after a domestic incident led to a lockdown of the Beloit College campus Thursday is facing more charges after officers found a gun, according to Beloit police.
Jose R. Rodriguez, 51, of Beloit, is one of three people arrested after the campus was locked down Thursday afternoon. He was initially arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct while armed and resisting arrest.
Beloit police were called about 12:25 p.m. to a disturbance at a home in the 1800 block of Park Avenue. Officers learned that the man had threatened the caller with a handgun and fled in his vehicle.
About 1:50 p.m., police made voice contact with the suspect. Shortly after 3 p.m., the suspect and a female acquaintance voluntarily left the apartment in the 900 block of Park Avenue and were taken into custody without incident, police said.
Police said they later returned to the apartment and searched the apartment’s parking garage. Officers said they found a handgun they believe was used by Rodriguez. They based that on where they found the gun.
Officers also determined cocaine recovered in a search of a third-floor apartment belonged to Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is now charged with suspicion of disorderly conduct while armed, felon in possession of a firearm, second-offense possession of cocaine, prohibited acts B and resisting an officer.
