Middleton's Police Department is taking to social media in order to connect more with the community they protect and serve.
On Friday night, officers took part in what was billed as the first-ever "Global Police Tweet-A-Thon."
Officers shared information on Twitter about each call they got.
More than 35,000 tweets were recorded between 150 agencies across nine countries that participated in the event.
The Middleton Police Department said its participation was an important way to humanize their organization to the citizens they work for.
"It gives them an idea of what we do, probably the average citizen doesn't understand what we do from day to day," said Keith Cleasby, the Middleton Police Department’s social media manager. "Be it the crimes that we investigate, or just the various things that we do."
The department also launched "tip411," an Internet-based tool that lets the public text an anonymous tip to police, who can then respond back, thus creating a two-way chat.
