University of Wisconsin-Madison police said they arrested a man Sunday for intoxication while driving through the IronMan marathon course in downtown Madison.
Police said the driver, Michael A. Potter, of Madison, disregarded traffic barricades on N. Park Street and University Avenue Sunday, eventually driving over cones and entering the IronMan course. Police said he finally pulled his car over at the intersection of N. Park Street and Langdon Street.
Potter’s vehicle nearly struck some pedestrians, IronMan participants and a police officer, police said.
The officer said a field sobriety test was performed, and Potter was arrested for tentative charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, his fourth offense, operating a motor vehicle after revocation and failure to obey traffic and officer signs. He was booked into the Dane County Jail and will make an initial court appearance soon.
University police said no one was hurt and the IronMan course remained open.
