Man dies following sailboat accident on Lake Kegonsa
Sailboat tipped over in water
A sailboat accident on Lake Kegonsa on Thursday has led to the death of a 66-year-old man.
Emergency crews were called to the 3300 block of Quam Drive, on the south side of the lake, at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office said the man was in a sailboat regatta on the lake when he was thrown from the boat into the water. A nearby boat came to his rescue.
Sheriff's deputes said when rescuers first made contact with the man, he was alert and conscious. However, as they pulled him into the pontoon boat, according to sheriff's deputies, the man went unconscious.
Fellow boaters worked to help get the man to shore.
The man was taken to Stoughton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man was wearing a life vest at the time of the incident. The man owned a summer home on Lake Kegonsa.
The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Henry M. Baskerville. Officials said that an autopsy was conducted and the results are pending further study, but investigators found nothing suspicious.
