Police in Portage say a man helped to bring three burglary suspects to justice, one of which was his own son.

A little more than a week ago, Don Helper realized a break-in happened at some property he was renting.

The landlord called police, who found the home had been broken into twice.

Police said they used footprints from snow left inside to identify three people involved: Frederick Harvey III, Yancy McMurray, and Don's son Richard Helper.

"He was a nice neighbor -- to call us when he noticed something was wrong," said Portage Sgt. Mark Hahn. "Unfortunately though, it ended up being his son was involved with it."

Police said the teens admitted to stealing about 150 dollars, some alcohol and jewelry. Police said the three are charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft and are due back in court Feb. 25th.
