A woman selling a used computer monitor online was scammed by the man who picked up the unit; he paid her with fake $20 bills, police said.

A 25-year-old Madison woman told police she had made an agreement with a man through to sell her computer monitor for $120.

When the man came to her home downtown to pick it up Saturday at about 3 p.m., he paid her with six $20 bills, police said. Shortly after he left with the monitor, the woman realized the only legitimate bill was the one on top; the other five $20 bills were fakes.

Police said the suspect is a black man in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall, average build. He was wearing basketball shorts, sneakers and a sweater, according to the report.

Police said the five fakes bills had the same serial number: JG05178338B.
