Madison police said a man who was trying to hail a cab was beaten by four men early Saturday morning.

The victim was attempting to flag down a cab at about 12:05 a.m. in the 600 block of University Avenue when four men made verbal contact with him and then hit and kicked him several times, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

The victim was treated for injuries to his face.

The victim wasn't able to give a detailed description of the attackers, according to the incident report.

Madison police have increased patrols in the popular 600 block of University Avenue after a string of incidents, including a shooting, a stabbing and a mugging nearby, this summer in the area near campus.
