Man attempts to steal truck, 60-inch TV from lot
Incident occurred Saturday outside Best Buy
Police said a man attempted to steal a truck from the Best Buy parking lot on West Towne Way as the owner and his son were loading a TV into the flat bed.
According to the report, a 48-year-old Mazomanie man and his 18-year-old son were loading a new 60-inch television onto the truck Saturday at about 6 p.m.
As the father strapped the TV down, the son stood near the passenger side of the truck. The victims told police a stocky black man between 25 and 30 years old got into the driver’s seat and started the truck.
Police said the 18-year-old grabbed the stranger and pulled him out of the cab and the 48-year-old chased the suspect but the attempted thief got away.
A witness told police the suspect had arrived in a 1970s-1980s beige-colored sedan with “fancy” rims and a loud muffler. The witness also said other men were in the car.
Police said the suspect was about 5 feet 9 inches tall and wore a stocking cap with a short bill, a dark baggy coat and baggy jeans with studs on the back.
The report also noted the suspect was seen smoking before the incident.
