A Sun Prairie man has been arrested on several charges, including third offense operating a vehicle while intoxicated and hit-and-run causing injury.
Madison police said officers were canvassing the area in and around West Main Street at about 9:35 p.m. Sunday, looking for a red vehicle that was driven by an intoxicated person.
Moments after the initial dispatch, the Madison Fire Department responded to West Washington Avenue and South Park Street on a report of a red Chevy that was just involved in a crash.
Witnesses said they saw a man, later identified as Mason Jay Marecek, 38, stagger and fall as he attempted to flee the crash scene that he caused, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
Officers were able to get a good description of Marecek's last location, and found him near the 300 block of South Park Street with the assistance of an initiated K-9 track, police said.
Police said Marecek was taken to a local hospital, and, after arriving, he began to fight with both police officers and multiple hospital security personnel. He attempted to kick officers several times, and then started to spit at all personnel who attempted to detain him, and blood transmission became a major concern, according to the incident report.
Police said he refused to be compliant with officers and had to be immediately restrained.
Police said no injuries were reported in the incident, but a victim in the hit-and-run crash reported multitude of injuries from the crash, according to the incident report.
Police said Marecek was arrested on charges of discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker, third offense OWI, hit-and-run involving injury, resisting/obstructing an officer and inattentive driving.
