MADISON, Wis. -

The American Red Cross will host the state's largest annual blood drive Christmas Eve at the Alliant Energy Center.

More than 600 Madison residents are expected to take time out of their holiday Monday to give the gift of life.

Since 1986, more than 18,400 pints of blood have been collected at the annual event. This year's drive marks the 27th year for the event.

All blood types are needed to ensure an adequate blood supply is available heading into the New Year. Blood donors with types O negative, A negative or B negative are especially encouraged to give at this time.
