The first-ever Lake Ride 2012 was hosted Saturday, Aug. 4, in Madison by Alliant Energy and more than 20 other sponsors.

More than $22,000 was raised to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project.

The Wounded Warriors Project works to honor and empower wounded servicemen and servicewomen.

Adam Widner is a Wounded Warriors recipient, volunteer and peer mentor to the program.

"This organization saved my life, and I don't say that lightly. I'm alive today for a lot of reasons; I'm definitely alive from some of the sacrifices made for other service members," Widner said.

More than 70 people participated in the event.
