Janesville shooting victim hospitalized with life-threatening injuries
Police have 34-year-old in custody
A 27-year-old male battled life-threatening injuries Friday evening after a shooting in Janesville.
Janesville police officers responded to reports of a shooting on 2807 Afton Road and found the man, who had been shot in the neck.
The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital Trauma Center and is currently being treated for life-threatening injuries.
The statement said police have arrested Janesville native Deadrick Vance, 34, on charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
Investigators said the suspect and victim have known each other for several years.
Janesville police said they don't believe anyone else is involved in the incident and that it was unclear what led to the shooting.
"It sounds like the victim had stopped by the residence, in order to actually pay a debt that he owed him," said Sgt. Anne Brophy of the Janesville Police Department.
According to online court records, Vance has had trouble with guns in the past: Vance was found guilty of dangerous use of a weapon and endangering safety in 2011.
