Head Start bus hits car on way to school, police say
16 kids aboard bus; no injuries reported
Monroe Police Department said a school bus carrying 16 kids hit another vehicle in an intersection Thursday morning.
According to the report, a Head Start school bus driven by 57-year-old Dianne Herbst of Gratiot, Wis., was crossing an uncontrolled intersection just after 8 a.m. when it hit a car driven by 41-year-old Beth Jarosz of Monroe. Police said the bus and the car sustained moderate to severe damage.
The bus was carrying 16 children and an adult teacher’s aide to school. Police said Monroe EMS evaluated four of the bus passengers for injuries on the scene. Four boys, ages 7, 10, 11 and 14, were checked but none were transported for treatment.
The bus then continued to school.
Neither driver reported injuries at the scene, according to the report.
The accident happened at the intersection of 20th Street and 12th Avenue, police said.
Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said the incident is under investigation and no citations were issued at the scene.
