The death of a Janesville man in a Milton grain bin is listed as accidental, according to preliminary autopsy reports.
The report states Jerod W. Guell, 27, died of asphyxia due to compression of the chest when he was buried by corn on Friday. Sixteen fire departments worked 12 hours on rescue operations at United Ethanol.
Milton police said Guell was working in the lower portion of the grain bin when a large amount of corn collapsed onto him from the outer portions of the bin and buried him. The investigation showed that there is no evidence to suggest anything other than an accidental death.
A spokesperson for United Ethanol said employees routinely go through safety training. Employees are being interviewed as the company tries to piece together what happened and set preventative measures.
