A 12-year-old from Glendale has become the youngest-ever black Eagle Scout in the country.
Seventh grader James Hightower III was honored Saturday in a ceremony at St. Mark AME Church in Milwaukee. WTMJ-TV reports he achieved the distinction by initiating a service project to rebuild decrepit baseball bleachers at a local park. He raised funds for the project and enlisted fellow Scouts to help with construction.
Only 7 percent of Boy Scouts achieve the Eagle Scout rank, and the average age the rank is attained is 17. Hightower says he had to make sacrifices, like giving up video games.
Hightower's parents say they're continually impressed by his drive. The boy says he wants to be an attorney when he grows up.
