MADISON, Wis. -

A Fitchburg man was charged Wednesday with 10 counts of using a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct to produce pornography, according to a release.

John L. Gilbert, 46, allegedly committed the offenses in February 2016 and November 2015, officials said.

The superseding indictment also charges Gilbert with one count of distributing child pornography, alleging that he forwarded three visual depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct to another person in February 2016.

Gilbert was originally charged on May 12 with one count of child pornography. He was arrested on that charge in May.

If convicted, Gilbert faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years and a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison on each production charge, according to the release. He also faces a mandatory penalty of five years and a maximum of 20 years on the distribution charge.
