Witnesses helped deputies find the driver accused of striking and killing an elderly woman near Hudson, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.

Eighty-four-year-old Lucille Hansen, of Roberts, was hit on County Road TT Wednesday afternoon and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say witnesses gave deputies a description of the fleeing car and the direction it was headed.

A 36-year-old man driving a 1997 Ford Taurus was arrested a short time later. The St. Paul Pioneer Press said the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.
