Editorial: WISC Editorial Agenda 2012
By Neil Heinen Editorial Director
After Governor Walker's budget address last year essentially blew up every item on our 2011 editorial agenda, we were a little cautious in crafting this year's agenda. Cautious?but also aggressive. This is a city, a region and a state that face big challenges. We want to confront them. In fact we must. Over the next week we'll lay out our agenda issue by issue. The list includes Racial Disparity, wherever it is found, school achievement, jail, children's issues. This post recession economy demands not just job creation but 21st century skills and smart use of our human capital to create The New Workforce. Politics, indeed much of society, has come to be dominated by the loudest voices on the left and the right. Those in the middle have become disenfranchised and we plan to focus on The Moderate Majority in 2012 Our children's advisors keep telling us kids are disproportionately suffering the effects of the recession. We once again will include our Time For Kids project right on our editorial agenda. And finally this remains a place where people care, give and want to contribute more. We will regularly suggest opportunities for Positive Change.
In our next editorial, more on Racial Disparities.
