A driver who ran down a Milwaukee grandmother has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Jesus DeJesus was driving on a suspended license and had cocaine in his system when he struck Clementina Hernandez as she was crossing the street last December. The 65-year-old was pushing a stroller with her 4-year-old grandson inside.
WTMJ-TV reported the boy has recovered from his injuries but is in therapy to cope with losing his grandmother.
The victim's daughter, Matilde Lozada Hernandez, said she hopes the case serves as an example for people who are not able to drive because they're under the influence.
Defense attorney Michael Stienle said the accident was a tragic mistake. He said DeJesus is a decent man despite crime in his past, and that he did call 911.
