Starting on Monday, most downtown Madison street meters will charge $1.75 an hour.

The average rates are increasing between 5 and 25 cents.

City officials said many rates were left unchanged, including parking permit fees and rates at the State Street Campus garage. 

Much of the money from the increased fees will help cover the costs of new parking garages.
