A dog and her puppies were rescued from a house fire Friday afternoon, according to a news release.
Janesville firefighters responded to a call at 628 Caroline Street around 1:40 p.m. for a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames and through a front window that had shattered due to heat, the release said.
The home was vacant and being renovated at the time, but neighbors said there might be pets inside, fire officials said.
Firefighters found the dog and her puppies in the home's basement and rescued them.
One firefighter suffered a laceration to his right palm and was treated and released at Mercy Hospital.
The home suffered $45,000 in damage, the release said.
