A Columbia County sheriff's deputy was injured when a driver lost control and crashed into the deputy's patrol car Monday night.
About 9 p.m. Monday, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office was assisting with multiple slide-offs on Interstate 39-90-94 at the State Highway 60 interchange due to slippery road conditions.
Deputy Michael Schultz, 29, was legally parked along the shoulder of the interstate with the patrol car's emergency lights and amber arrow stick activated.
Schultz had just returned to his patrol car after assisting a motorist who slid off the road and into the ditch. Seconds after the deputy was seated in his car, another motorist lost control and crashed into the driver's side of the patrol car.
Sheriff's officials said the driver of the car that hit the patrol car, a 19-year-old La Crosse woman, wasn't injured in the crash.
Schultz was transported by Arlington EMS to Divine Savior Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated at the hospital and released shortly after midnight.
Schultz will be off of work until he is re-evaluated by his personal physician, according to the news release.
